Jean Nouvel's tower at Cidade Matarazzo in São Paulo is planted. Not decorated with planting but structured around it. A hundred metres, twenty five storeys, something like ten thousand trees carried up a latticed steel facade, so the building is partly alive and changes on a schedule nobody controls.

It is an argument about what a surface is for. A wall can be a finish, or it can be a substrate.

At 1.08 grams this is the lightest thing I make. The bead is mostly opening, a shell with enough silver to hold the pattern and not a milligram more. Held up to the light it does what the tower does. It lets you see the far side through the near one.

Bead necklace on a 40, 45 or 50cm chain. Inspired by Jean Nouvel's Rosewood São Paulo at Cidade Matarazzo, Brazil. Solid sterling silver 925.
